How to invoice a client as a freelancer

  1. From: your name or business name, plus your address, email and phone. Add your logo if you have one.
  2. Bill to: the client's company name and the contact or department that pays invoices ("Attn: Accounts Payable").
  3. Invoice number and dates: keep numbers in sequence (INV-0001, INV-0002…). The due date starts 14 days after the issue date. Change it to match your agreement.
  4. Lines: one line per piece of work. For hourly work, put the hours in Qty and your hourly rate in Rate. For a fixed-price project, use Qty 1 and the project price.
  5. Payment terms: say how to pay you (bank transfer details, PayPal address) and any late fee you agreed.
  6. Download the PDF and attach it to your email.

What a freelance invoice should include

Rules differ by country. If you're registered for VAT or GST, for example, your tax number usually has to appear on the invoice. Put it in your "From" details.

Your draft is saved in this browser. "Start a new invoice" keeps your details, logo, currency and terms, clears the client and lines, and moves the invoice number up by one.

Invoice generator FAQ

How do I invoice for hourly work?

Enter the hours in the Qty column and your hourly rate in the Rate column. Use one line per task or per week so the client can see what they're paying for.

How should I number my invoices?

Type it in the Invoice number box. A simple sequence such as 2026-001, 2026-002 works well. Use each number once, so you and your client can match payments to invoices.

Does the PDF have your branding on it?

The free PDF has a small "Made with SiskinBill" line in the footer. Your logo and details are the main header.

Is this invoice generator really free?

Yes. Create and download as many PDF invoices as you like, with no signup. Each PDF carries a small "Made with SiskinBill" line in the footer.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser, and your draft is stored only in this browser's local storage. Use "Start a new invoice" to clear it. The only things ever sent are cookie-free visit counts (Cloudflare Web Analytics, see Privacy), anonymous counts of which buttons are used (for example, 'a PDF was downloaded'), and an anonymous error report if something breaks (error text, browser, page, app version). Never anything you type or upload. Button counts are skipped if your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.

How is tax calculated?

Tax is applied to the subtotal after the discount. Each line is rounded to the cent, and the tax is rounded once. Shipping is added after tax.

Can I add my logo?

Yes. Upload a PNG or JPG. It is resized in your browser and placed at the top of the PDF.

Which currencies are supported?

USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, NZD, CHF, JPY, INR and MXN. Where the PDF font has no symbol (for example the rupee sign), the currency code is used instead.

Is this tax or legal advice?

No. Check what your invoices must include where you do business (for example a VAT or GST number).
